Challenge

The Problem

Logan Canyon's limestone cliffs produce frequent rockfall threatening US-89, a major route to Bear Lake. The varied geology required multiple mitigation approaches. Environmental restrictions limited work periods due to wildlife considerations.

Solution

Our Approach

Rock Supremacy implemented a hybrid system: attenuator fences in talus zones to slow and redirect debris, draped mesh on fractured cliff faces, and systematic rock bolting on large unstable blocks. All work was completed outside of raptor nesting season.

Results

The Outcome

The multi-system approach has reduced road-reaching rockfall by 92%. UDOT reports maintenance call-outs for rockfall debris have dropped from monthly to bi-annual.
