Challenge

The Problem

Following the Grizzly Creek Fire, heavy rains triggered debris flows and destabilized large rock masses along the critical I-70 corridor. The interstate needed to be secured immediately to prevent further closures, but the terrain was extremely steep (80°+) and accessible only by rope or helicopter.

Solution

Our Approach

Rock Supremacy mobilized three high-angle scaling crews within 24 hours. We utilized helicopter operations to transport drilling equipment and mesh rolls to the upper slope. Over 6 weeks, we performed 500 hours of manual scaling and installed 50,000 sq ft of Tecco mesh with 15ft fully grouted anchors.

Results

The Outcome

The project was completed 1 week ahead of schedule. The new mesh system successfully contained two minor rockfall events the following spring, proving the design effectiveness.
