Erosion Control

Erosion Control

Erosion control protects slopes, waterways, and disturbed ground from surface degradation caused by rainfall, runoff, wind, and freeze-thaw cycles. Whether the goal is to prevent sediment movement, stabilize newly cut slopes, or protect infrastructure after a wildfire, Rock Supremacy designs and installs erosion control systems that match the terrain, soil type, and long-term stabilization needs of the site.

Comprehensive Erosion Control Solutions

Left unmanaged, erosion can undermine slopes and retaining structures, increase sediment load in waterways, expose rockfall hazards by weakening overburden, lead to costly maintenance and washouts, damage access roads, utilities, and infrastructure, and trigger small slides that grow into large failures. Effective erosion control is a critical final step in long-term slope stability.

Common applications include new roadway embankments and cut slopes, slopes disturbed by grading or construction, drainage channels and culverts, post-wildfire slope stabilization, mine reclamation and industrial restoration, landslide repair requiring final surface protection, and agricultural and rural road maintenance zones.

Rock Supremacy provides erosion control solutions that integrate directly with your site's geotechnical stabilization needs: installation on steep or inaccessible slopes using rope access, coordination with rockfall mitigation and slope stabilization crews, experience with DOT, environmental, and stormwater compliance requirements, rapid post-fire mobilization to protect infrastructure before storms, in-house equipment for hydromulching, grading, and material placement, and engineered solutions tailored to hydrology and soil characteristics.

Erosion control is necessary when the site has exposed soil from construction or slope repair, post-fire instability and hydrophobic conditions, surface runoff creating rilling or sediment movement, slopes lacking vegetation or suffering washouts, soil conditions susceptible to sloughing or surficial failures, or environmental compliance requirements for stormwater controls.

Horizontal Drains
Horizontal Drains icon

Horizontal Drains

Horizontal drains are slightly upward-inclined drilled drains (50 to 500 plus ft, 2 to 4 inch slotted PVC or HDPE) installed into a slope or embankment to lower the groundwater table and relieve the pore pressure that drives landslide movement. Standard slope-drainage tool per TRB Special Report 247 and FHWA-NHI-08-097.

Shotcrete (Wet Mix)

Shotcrete (Wet Mix)

Wet-mix shotcrete is the production-rate placement process where concrete is pre-batched with water, pumped through a delivery hose, and propelled onto the work surface by compressed air at the nozzle. Plant-batched water-cement ratio gives consistent strength and the lowest rebound in the shotcrete family, making wet-mix the default process for permanent civil structural work.

Shotcrete (Dry Mix)

Shotcrete (Dry Mix)

Dry-mix shotcrete is the operator-controlled placement process where dry cement and aggregate are conveyed by compressed air to the nozzle, where the nozzleman meters water in at placement. Portable equipment, real-time water control, and bag-fed supply make dry-mix the right tool for repair, remote-site, intermittent, and overhead-dominant work where wet-mix pump-and-pour logistics do not pay back.

Structural Shotcrete

Structural shotcrete is pneumatically applied concrete engineered to carry computed structural loads, used for soil nail wall facings, tunnel primary and final linings, dam and spillway rehabilitation, and permanent retaining walls. ACI 506 family specifications govern design, placement, and acceptance testing.

Weep Drains

Weep drains are short through-facing drainage outlets that discharge water trapped behind retaining walls, MSE walls, soldier pile walls, and shotcrete-faced soil nail walls before hydrostatic pressure can drive facing detachment, wall tilt, or freeze-thaw damage. Standard detail per AASHTO LRFD ยง11.10.8.

Our Work in Action

Questions

Erosion Control FAQ

Hydroseeded slopes typically show germination within 7-14 days and establish ground cover within 60-90 days, depending on season and species. We use fast-germinating nurse crops for rapid erosion protection.
We specify native grass and shrub mixes suited to local climate and soil conditions. Deep-rooted species provide long-term stability, while fast-growing annuals provide immediate coverage.
Erosion control blankets protect soil from raindrop impact and sheet flow while vegetation establishes. Biodegradable blankets decompose over 1-3 years; permanent mats provide ongoing protection in high-flow areas.
Yes, we're experienced with NPDES, SWPPP, and state erosion control requirements. We can prepare erosion control plans and implement the BMPs required for permit compliance.
New installations need monitoring during establishment. Long-term maintenance includes sediment removal from catch basins, repair of concentrated flow damage, and vegetation management.

"We engaged Rock Supremacy for a very challenging cliffside project that involved the stabilization and reinforcement of a retaining wall which ultimately required a total of ten drilled horizontal rock anchors, multiple vertical stabilization pilings and encapsulation with concrete structural reinforcement. Even though my residential project, as large as it was to me, was of a much smaller scale than the company often deals with, it approached the task with all of the consideration and professionalism I could hope for. Notably, they were not hesitant to take on a challenging terrain even with its limited access. From the outset, Corey Muir was very engaged in the project and with finding workable solutions. He was eager to explore alternative options for accomplishing the goals and worked diligently with my engineering consultants to tweak the design for a practical, affordable solution. Throughout the planning process, he maintained excellent communications with myself and our structural engineers. Corey was careful to make sure, prior to our final agreement, that all details were fully understood. The company began the project exactly when anticipated. The on-site crew, David, Nate and Jules proved to be the "A" team. They are very skilled and professional. I found them considerate, easy to interact with, and flexible with regard to change possibilities. The team showed careful concern for my property and all possible avoidance of collateral damage while completing a job that involved some very heavy equipment. When the concrete supplier was unduly delayed, they took it in stride and made the best of the situation. The job was actually finished a little ahead of schedule. Definitely a five star rating for this group, I would be happy to further discuss my experience with anyone contemplating the use of Rock Supremacy's services."
