The Problem

Highway 75 passes through steep granite terrain in the Sawtooth Mountains with numerous rockfall source zones. Historical scaling had not been performed in over 15 years, and several near-miss incidents prompted ITD to commission a comprehensive mitigation project.

Solution

Our Approach

Our rope access teams performed systematic scaling across 14 identified hazard zones, removing over 1,500 tons of loose rock. High-tensile mesh was installed on the most active zones, and catchment areas were improved with new concrete barriers.

Results

The Outcome

Rockfall incidents on this corridor have decreased by 85% since project completion. The improved catchment areas have successfully contained all post-construction rockfall events.
