Terwilliger Plaza Slope Stabilization
Urban slope stabilization project securing a steep rock face adjacent to a high-rise residential building in downtown Portland.
Project Stats
The Problem
A steep, deteriorating rock slope directly behind a high-rise residential building posed a rockfall hazard to residents and property. The urban setting required careful coordination with building occupants and limited access for equipment. Work had to minimize noise, dust, and disruption to the adjacent residential community.
Our Approach
Rock Supremacy deployed a combination of spider drills for soil nail installation, rope access crews for mesh placement, and shotcrete application for face stabilization. Horizontal drains were installed to manage groundwater. A crane-mounted personnel basket provided access to the upper portions of the 80-foot face.
The Outcome
The slope was fully stabilized with zero incidents affecting building residents. The shotcrete facing was finished to blend with the natural rock aesthetic. The project has performed well through multiple Pacific Northwest storm seasons.
